COACHES

Our staff is made up of former and current players, middle school, high school, and college coaches who want to share their love and passion for volleyball.

Paul Brock
Coach

Paul Brock has coached for nearly 40 years in Chattanooga. He is the winningest male High School Coach in Tennessee history (821W-240L). In 2016, he was selected to the Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame. He has been selected Tennessee Coach of the Year 4 times (1998, 2000, 2003, 2007). In his younger days, he was an accomplished player competing at very high levels both indoor and on the sand.

Bryan Bramlett
Coach

Bryan Bramlett has coached club volleyball for over 15 years. His coaching record includes dozens of tournaments wins including top finishes at USAV and AAU National Tournaments. In his younger days, he was an elite player traveling all over the South to compete both indoor and in the sand.

Alfie Dodd
Coach

Alfie Dodd has been playing and coaching volleyball for over 30 years. He is currently the Head Volleyball Coach at Girl's Preparatory School where he previously served as the Head Coach in 2016-2017. An accomplished player, Dodd played at the University of Memphis and on USAV Regional Championship teams as well as beach volleyball tours like AVPNext, EVP, CBVA and many others. Most recently he coached for the K2 Boys Volleyball Program in Knoxville.

Grant Lange
Coach

Grant Lange has coached volleyball for 20 years at the high school, club and collegiate level. He coached college at Bellevue Community College and Western Washington University as Head Coach. He has been actively involved in junior club volleyball including coaching and as a Director. He is an accomplished player competeing in college and on an Open Men's Club team (top 5 USAV finish). He is USAV Impact, SafeSport, CAP 1, CAP 2, and BCAP (beach) certified.

Darin Van Horn
Coach

Darin Van Horn is the University of Tennessee Chattanooga's first head coach for the Beach Volleyball program. His also an assistant coach for the indoor program. He coaches all aspects of the game with an emphasis on training the outside hitters and liberos.

Darin and assistant coach Juliana Van Horn were named the OVC Beach Co-Coaching Staff of the Year in 2021.

Van Horn coached at Virginia where he served as a volunteer assistant for one season. Before that he was the travel manager for the Nittany Lions men's volleyball squad from 2009-12 and the highly-regarded women's program for two (2012-13), including the 2013 NCAA Championship run. He served as head coach for the women's club team from 2013-14. Van Horn also played for the men's club squad from 2009-13.

Marjorie Smith
Coach

Coach Smith played at Red Bank High school where she received multiple tournament MVP awards and was named Athletic Player of the Year in 2017. She then played at Tennessee Wesleyan University for 4 and a half years. She has received multiple all conference awards and in 2021 was named female athlete of the year (Dwain Farmer Award). She still holds many school records including: most career kills, blocks, and being part of the season winningest team in the school's history.

She has coached both in middle school and youth club volleyball and is passionate about sharing her love for the game with young athletes.

Steve Nicola
Club Director/ Coach

Coach Steve has been involved in volleyball for over 30 years. First as a player for the University of West Florida's Men's Club Team and then as a coach for men's club, women's USAV, grade school, youth sand, and youth indoor club. He is the Director at XSV Volleyball where he oversees adult and youth tournaments, adult indoor and outdoor leagues, youth training clinics and the junior boys and girls club programs. He is passionate about, and dedicated to, growing the sport of volleyball and helping athletes discover the value of responsibility, teamwork, courage, discipline, determination and hard work.
